Maciej is an economist and Polish Certified Tax Advisor (since 2003, license 09880).His over 18-years of expertise covers domestic and international income tax advice, tax planning/optimizations for multinationals, private equity funds, and Polish entrepreneurs.

Professional experience

Maciej started his career in a Tax Department of Arthur Andersen in Poland. In 2002, together with other members of Andersen's tax team, he joined Ernst & Young, where he specialized in transactions – tax structuring and risk assessment. In 2003, he became a manager in the Transaction Tax Team of Ernst & Young Poland, in 2005 – Senior Manager in Tax Assurance and Risk Assessment Service line of Ernst & Young Audit.

Since 2008 Maciej co-operated with Accreo Taxand – the Polish Member Firm of Taxand, where he was responsible for tax optimization and transaction tax support. In 2012 Maciej joined tax advisory company Enodo Advisors.

Restructurings and optimisations projects

Maciej's experience includes:

  • number of tax due diligence projects (in E&Y and Taxand) for both private equity funds and multinationals incl. energy and telecom firms, quantification of tax risk also for presentations in management accounts;
  • tax structuring of private deals and tax-driven restructurings (planning and implementation, co-ordination of foreign tax specialists);
  • step-up and restructurings projects for real estate clients;
  • effective tax rate optimizations for multinationals (tax planning related to transfer and use of IP, planning in respect of tax depreciation and financing costs for green-field investments, implementations tax optimization schemes based on use of close-ended-funds real estate/property tax planning and reviews);
  • tax optimization for individuals selling their businesses and investing abroad;
  • advice on domestic and international income tax aspects relating to both inbound and outbound investments - use of holding and financing companies, tax optimization of cross border payments (royalties, interest, dividends) and overall tax leakage (transfer taxes, stamp duties), optimizations of directors' compensations.

Lectures and publications

Maciej is co-author of a book „International Tax Planning", author of articles in Polish and international tax presses (e.g. Jurysdykcja Podatkowa, International Tax Review); gives lectures on tax optimization techniques and tax aspects of restructurings and M&A.
